Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 4.5 kilometre-long Kartarpur. Meanwhile, his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan will separately inaugurate the corridor in Pakistan. The 550th Guru Naka Jayanti will be celebrated on November 12.
Gurdaspur, November 8: On the occasion of the 550th birth anniversary, India and Pakistan will inaugurate the Kartarpur Corridor. The corridor will connect the Indian town of Dera Baba Nanak with Kartarpur town in Pakistan where the first guru of Sikhs Guru Nanak Dev spent last 18 years of his life. After Inaugurating the corridor, PM Modi will flag off the first batch of over 500 Indian pilgrims that will travel to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Narowal district of Pakistan through the road connecting the two border towns. Prior to inaugurating the corridor, the Prime Minister will pay obeisance at Ber Sahib Gurudwara at Sultanpur Lodhi. Later, Prime Minister will participate in a public programme at Dera Baba Nanak. He will also inaugurate passenger terminal building, also known as Integrated Check Post, where pilgrims will get clearance to travel through the corridor. Here is the Schedule of PM Modi's Visit to Gurdaspur:
- PM Modi will reach Ber Sahib Gurudwara at Sultanpur Lodhi at around 10 am.
- The Prime Minister will reach Dera Baba Nanak at around 12 pm.
- The Inauguration of the corridor will take place between 12:30 and 1 pm
- Before the main ceremony, the PM will also inaugurate the Integrated Check Post.
- A 300 feet National Monumental Flag is also being hoisted at the International Border.
Last year in November the Union Cabinet also approved the building and development of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to the International Boundary, to facilitate pilgrims from India to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, round the year, in a smooth and easy manner. The 4.2 Km four-lane highway connecting Dera Baba Nanak from Amritsar – Gurdaspur Highway has been constructed at the cost of Rs 120 crore. India and Pakistan signed the agreement to finalise the formal framework for operationalisation of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor on October 24. The agreement will allow 5,000 Indian pilgrims daily to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. Indians of all faiths can visit the Gurudwara. Pakistan will charge $20 service fee from each visitor. On Thursday, Pakistan deployed 100-member special 'Tourism Police Force' for the security of the Indian pilgrims.
