Kartarpur, November 9: Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh on Saturday praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan for opening the Kartrapur Corridor. Speaking at the opening ceremony of the corridor in Pakistan, Sidhu said that Khan took a bold step to build the Kartarpur Corridor. He further added that the Pakistan PM opened the corridor without looking at gains or losses. The Congress leader also thanked PM Modi. He said, “It is the first time since partition that the boundaries have been dismantled. No one can deny my friend Imran Khan's contribution. Meanwhile, after a visit to Kartrapur, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that It was a good beginning. He said, “India-Pakistan relations are subject to many buts and ifs, I hope this is a good beginning to normalise our relation.” Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh also termed his visit to Kartarpur as “good experience”. He expressed hope that the Corridor would eventually become a corridor of peace between the two countries.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi inaugurated the Indian side of the corridor. He also flagged off the first batch of Sikh pilgrims including Sidhu, Capt Amarinder, Manmohan Singh and Sunny Deol. The pilgrims visited the Darbar Sahib Gurudwara in Kartarpur. India and Pakistan signed the agreement on October 24 to finalise the formal framework for operationalisation of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor. The corridor was opened days before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
