Bengaluru, December 19: At least two persons, who participated in the agitation called against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in Manguluru, died after allegedly sustaining bullet injuries. Although the police has reiterated that no firing was carried out from their side, preliminary reports claim that the deaths were caused due to firearm injuries. Similar to the Karnataka Police, their counterparts in Uttar Pradesh have denied using firearms against the protesters. The death reported in Lucknow will be thoroughly probed to ascertain the cause of demise, said UP Director General of Police O P Singh.
"Firing was not done from our side. I do not know how that death occurred, I do not think it has anything to do with this agitation and police action," DGP Singh was reported as saying.
In Karnataka, a curfew has been clamped down in the communally-sensitive district of Mangaluru, with internet services also being suspended to prevent circulation of rumours. The riot control squad of the state police has been deployed to prevent the breakdown of law and order.

Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa issued a statement, appealing for peace and calm across the state. The BJP veteran appealed all sections of the society to exercise restraint and prevent the escalation of tensions in the state.
Yediyurappa appealed the residents to "stay away from vested interests" indulging in rumour mongering and "stoking passions to disturb peace and harmony" of state. "Let's not pay heed to motivated rumours and tarnish peace loving image of Karnataka," he added.
