Bengaluru, August 7: The state government of Karnataka on Wednesday decided to release 14.53 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic) water to Hemavathi canal system for 25 days starting today, August 7. According to reports, the Hemavathi catchment is receiving good rainfall so good outflow is expected. The water will be released to tanks in Hassan, Tumakuru and Mandya and also to Tamil Nadu. Shivamogga region has received the maximum rain in Karnataka. Deepa Cholan, Deputy Commissioner of Dharwad said holidays for schools and college have been extended for three more days in Dharwad District, due to continuous rainfall in the region. Karnataka Rains: Red Alert Issued in Dakshina Kannada for Two Days

According to a tweet by ANI, the state government of Karnataka has decided to release water to Tungabhadra project and Vijayanagara Canals as the in-flow has increased in Tungabhadra Reservoir. Reports inform that 9800 cusecs of water to be released to Left bank and right bank canals of Tungabhadra reservoir and Vijayanagar canals. Northern Karnataka continues to reel under severe flood conditions after Maharashtra released a huge volume of water from its reservoirs following incessant rains.  Pre-Monsoon Rainfall From March to May Deficit Drops to 22%: IMD.

In its weather bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that isolated places over Konkan, Goa, South Interior, Coastal Karnataka and Odisha are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Wednesday. Heavy rainfall is also witnessed at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Gujarat region, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep.

Water from the Markandeya river gushed into Gokak and Hukkeri in Belagavi, reports said. The districts hit due to the torrential rains and subsequent flooding are Belagavi, Vijayapura, Yadgiri, Raichur, Bagalkot, Hubballi-Dharwad, Shivamogga, Udupi, Dakshina Kananda, Kodagu and Uttara Kannada.
