Hanur, December 15: At least 12 people were killed and over 80 others were hospitalised after consuming ‘prasad’ in a village in Karnataka’s Chamarajanagar district. According to a tweet by ANI, Puttaranga Shetty, the District In-charge Minister of Chamarajanagar informed that a total 47 patients are being shifted to Care Hospital while 17 are in JSS Hospital. After visiting KR Hospital, Shetty said around 91 patients shifted from Chamarajnagar to Mysore while many patients have been shifted to different Mysore hospitals. There was a commotion across the city as people hurried to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Reports inform that the tragic incident was reported from Kitchalavadi village in Kollegal during the foundation laying ceremony of the gopura, the monumental entrance tower of the temple. Puttaranga Shetty, said whoever may be the culprit, strict action will be taken against them. Reports inform that police investigation into the case is currently underway. Reports inform that samples of the offering served at the Sulvadi Kichchugutti Maramma temple in Hanur taluk was sent to a laboratory for testing. In the wake of the tragic incident, Chief Minister of Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy said the incident is unfortunate and added that Principal Secretary and Commissioner have instructed DHOs of Mandya and Mysore to provide help to Chamarajanagar health administration.
