Yadgir, September 16: In a disturbing incident, a 32-year-old man allegedly strangled his wife to death following a distressing dispute over her refusal to sleep with other men in Yadgir. The accused, identified as Bheemanna, who is impotent, had persistently pressured his wife, Sharana Basamma, to engage with other men to conceive a child and help him repay debts he owed. Angered by his wife's repeated refusal, he allegedly strangled her to death and then attempted to mislead her family by falsely claiming that Basamma had suffered a heart attack.
The grim details of the crime came to light following a forensic investigation that exposed the true nature of her death. Initially, Basamma's death was attributed to a possible heart attack after her husband called her family, claiming she was unresponsive. The crime, which occurred on July 25 in Yadgir district's Shahapur taluka, initially seemed like a tragic but natural death. Basamma was declared dead on arrival at a local hospital, and her family initially did not suspect foul play. However, suspicions were raised when doctors noticed inconsistencies in the case, prompting a deeper inquiry. The Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) report revealed that Basamma had died from asphyxiation caused by strangulation, not a heart attack as initially claimed by Bheemanna, as reported by Indian Express. This revelation led the police to reexamine the circumstances surrounding her death. An investigation uncovered that Bheemanna had been pressuring his wife to sleep with other men to help him repay debts and conceive a child, which she repeatedly refused. Further scrutiny of Bheemanna's and Basamma's phones revealed audio messages from Bheemanna demanding that Basamma comply with his wishes. When she threatened to report him to her parents, the situation escalated violently. Bheemanna's attempt to mislead her family by fabricating a heart attack story was ultimately exposed, leading to his arrest.
