Dharwad, December 30: At least six people were killed and four others injured in a massive collision between of two speeding cars - approaching from opposite ends - in the wee hours of Sunday. The survivors are currently being treated, with the condition stated to be stable. Bodies of the deceased will be handed over to the kin after the autopsy is completed.
The accident was reported in Adavisomapur village in Gadag district of Karnataka. The head-on collision occurred at 3am in the night. The deceased were residents of Hebballi Agasi village in Dharwad. They have been identified as: Anand Betgeri, Siddu Korishetti, Manojkumar Karadigudda, Amruth and Channu Wadad.
The four persons injured have been identified as Manjunath Hallikeri, Virupakshappa Abbigeri, Vishwanath Kerur and Vijaykumar Banavasi. They are expected to remain admitted at a civic hospital in Gadag for the next couple of days. All of them are residents of Gadag. They were returning late night after having dinner at a dhaba in Lakkundi village, located 12-km away from Gadag.
As per the statistics released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Karnataka is ranked as the fourth most dangerous state for road commuters. A total of 10,609 deaths in road accidents were recorded in Karnataka in 2017.
