Karnataka Rains: Railway Employees, Locals Remove Boulders From Sakleshpur-Mangaluru Railway Track, Operation Underway

Bengaluru, August 22: In the midst of incessant rain and frequent landslides, railway employees along with locals are carrying out an operation to remove boulders from a portion of Sakleshpur-Mangaluru railway track in Karnataka. The train movement on this route has been affected. According to a tweet by ANI, the operation is currently underway. Reports inform that Sakleshpur tahsildar Girish Nandan, Forest Department officers, and locals of neighbouring villages took part in the rescue operation.
According to a report by The Hindu, a landslide at Dudhsagar yard on the Karnataka-Goa border on Tuesday resulted in cancellation and diversion of various trains on that route. The report informs that the landslide occurred on the Castle Rock-Kulem section and huge boulders fell on the railway track.
Incessant rains created a havoc in Karnataka, especially in the Ghat section between Sakleshpur and Subramanya Road. Reports inform that heavy earth boulders have fallen on track at many locations making the Yedakumari station most affected. Owing to heavy rainfall in the region, train services have been affected. Earlier this week, at least 12 railway staff were stuck and were unable to move out from either direction due to heavy landslide with boulders.
A rescue team was formed under the leadership of Sakleshpur's Assistant Commissioner Lakshmikanth and consisted of the local Police, Railway Protection Force and Fire Brigade and the staff was successfully rescued.
