Tumakuru, January 23: A video has been going viral in which Janata Dal (Secular) leader and Tourism minister SR Mahesh can be seen shouting at Tumakuru superintendent of police Divya Gopinath. Mahesh has been accused of using foul language and calling an IPS office "Bloody Lady", reported News18. According to the reports, when Divya denied entry to Mahesh, he got angry and told her that he was a Cabinet Minister. In a similar way, she denied entry to Lingasaguru MLA Venkatrao Nadagouda, but later both were let in. After the incident, the opposition, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), took to Twitter demanding Mahesh's resignation. "JDS MLA and Minister Sa. Ra. Mahesh abuses Tumakuru SP Divya. Calls the women police officer "Bloody Rascal." Women officers were spotted crying. Officer had left her unwell kid & reported to work. This is what happens when a party with 38 MLA runs the state," said BJP in a Tweet.

Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy supported Mahesh and said, “District SPs should know who the cabinet ministers are. He had not used any unparliamentary language and doesn’t need to apologise." Later, Divya, while speaking to news reports, said that it is a cooked-up story and nothing much had happened. "The issue is not as huge as it is made out to be," IPS officer told Media.
