Bengaluru, May 8: In a bizarre incident, a groom called off his wedding in Karnataka's Tumakuru on Sunday, May 5, due to a dispute over sweets. The incident occurred after the bride's family did not serve sweets to the groom’s family.
In Somwarpet, a groom called off his wedding, alleging that his family was not served sweets during the meal, a News18 report said. The groom, from Tumakuru, was set to marry a woman from Hanagallu village on May 5. Before the wedding, the groom's family had allegedly demanded dowry in the form of gold and land in Bengaluru from the bride's family. On the wedding day, a dispute arose over the absence of sweets in the meal served to the groom's family. The groom removed his ring at the steps of the police station, declaring he did not want to marry. The bride, in response to the incident, called off the wedding.
In a separate incident in the Channapatna area of Ramanagara district, approximately 50 guests fell ill after consuming ice cream at a wedding. The guests, who had been served biryani followed by ice cream, started vomiting and experienced diarrhoea-like symptoms within half an hour of eating the dessert. The affected guests were shifted to Mandya and Ramanagara District Hospital. Reports suggest that the mass sickness was caused by the serving of expired ice cream. The treating doctor has assured that there is no cause for concern but has warned people against consuming ice cream or cool drinks at wedding ceremonies.
