Begaluru, August 19: The death toll in the devastating floods due to incessant rains in parts of Karnataka rose to 82 on Monday. Belagavi was the worst affected district in the state. A total of 19 people lost their lives in the district followed by Kodagu with 13 deaths. According to reports, around nine people are still missing. People are now leaving relief camps. The number of people living in relief camps has come down to 2.1 lakh from nearly 4 lakh earlier this week. The number of relief camps in the state has also come down to 493 from nearly 2,000. However, there is a bigger challenge for the state government to rehabilitate the displaced population.

The damaged houses in the floods in Karnataka also rose to 75,000. Around 992 livestock were also killed due to the heavy rains in the state. Meanwhile, on Sunday Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre had predicted moderate to heavy rains in the coastal and Malnad districts in the next two days. Karnataka government on Monday also released Rs 195 crore for relief measure and to provide immediate compensation of Rs. 10,000 to the flood victims. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala met Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on August 19 and handed over a cheque of Rs 25 Crore towards Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
