Badami, November 20: Residents of a village in Karnataka thrashed an Australian tourist after he allegedly misbehaved with a few women. The tourist, identified as James William, was reportedly in an inebriated state. Following the incident, the Australian national was rushed to a hospital where he was being treated. According to police, William was on his way to Karnataka's Bagalkot from Badami on a bus. He got off at Konanakoppa village. Allegedly drunk, the Australian citizen misbehaved with a few women of the village. This led to an argument between William and villagers who later tied him up and assaulted him. "There was an altercation and an exchange of blows between the villagers and the foreign national," DSP Lokesh J told NDTV.
After police were informed, cops brought William to a hospital in Bagalkot. Subsequently, a First Information Report was registered against unidentified villagers. Authorities also informed the Australian Embassy about the incident. Badami is a popular tourist destination known for its spectacular cave temples.
