Bengaluru, January 10: An autorickshaw driver in Karnataka was beaten to death by another driver who was irked at him for charging customers minimum fare. The incident took place at Yemalur autorickshaw stand last Wednesday. The victim, identified as Narayana YM, was popular in the area because of his friendly behaviour with commuters. The prime accused Babu was arrested.

Narayana, who used to work as a driver for the tax department, started driving autorickshaw post his retirement. According to the police, Narayana had become famous among daily commuters because he would charge minimum fare. "The other autorickshaw drivers, who would charge exorbitant fares, felt that Narayana was ruining their business," cops told the Hindu.

Last Wednesday, Babu got into an argument with Narayana over fares. The verbal spat soon turned into a fight. Babu assaulted the elderly driver who later fell unconscious. Other drivers tried to intervene but were pushed back by Babu. They then informed Narayana's family members who rushed to the spot and took him to a private hospital. Lynching in New Delhi: 26-Year-Old Autorickshaw Driver Beaten to Death by Mob in Front of Parents Over Alleged Theft.
