Karnataka: Aunt Allegedly Sells Minor Niece to Andhra Pradesh-Based Agriculturalist After Failing To Repay INR 35,000 Loan

Bengaluru, July 14: The Karnataka police recently solved a kidnapping case and rescued an 11-year-old girl who was allegedly sold by her aunt. The victim, a resident of Tumakuru, was reportedly sold to an agriculturalist from Andhra Pradesh for INR 35,000 by her debt-ridden aunt. Police officials said that the man who bought the minor girl had employed the accused woman to look after his ducks.
The incident came to light after the minor girl's mother lodged a complaint, and the district labour department intervened, reports the Times of India. Following this, the police swung into action to solve the case. Police officials learned that the victim's aunt took INR 35,000 as a loan from the employer; however, she failed to repay it. In her complaint, the victim's mother said her daughter had gone to stay with her younger sister in 2023. She also told police that her daughter had joined a government school there as her sister had promised to look after her. However, the complainant said that she was not able to contact her daughter. When questioned, her sister told her that her daughter was looking after the pregnant wife of the agriculturist.

After this, the woman approached the labour department who then contacted the police and lodged a complaint. Later, the police rescued the girl from the agriculturist's clutches. Meanwhile, a search has been launched to nab the agriculturist, who has been at large.
