Making a clarification on their social media handle, they wrote, “Dear Patrons, We would like to clarify that Karachi Bakery was founded by Shri. Khanchand Ramnani, who migrated to India during the partition. The brand was established in 1953 and is an Indian company based out of Hyderabad, Telangana, India. The popularity and the love for its products has contributed to its growth throughout India and abroad. The essence of Karachi Bakery is absolutely Indian by heart and will remain so. We request everybody to refrain from any kind of misconceptions." Karachi Bakery in Bengaluru Covers 'Karachi' From Nameplate After Mob Protests Against Name.

The message was also tweeted on the microblogging website – Twitter – and put outside an outlet in South Delhi. The famous bakery also has outlets in Delhi and Mumbai, apart from Hyderabad and New Bengaluru.

Earlier, the outlet in Bengaluru covered the initials of the Bakery shop, after people in Bengaluru protested against the name of Karachi bakery outside one of its outlet on Friday night. Though no damage of property was reported, the outlet covered the ‘Karachi’ part of signboard as a precaution. Police also sent a team for the protection of the employees working in the outlet to prevent any untoward incident. The action was taken after the outlet owner made a distress call.

It is believed that that the protesters thought the bakery to be an outlet of Pakistan and so they staged their protest. Also, there were several threat, and harassment reports observed in the aftermath of Pulwama attack in Kashmir.
