Patna, October 16: The convoy of Kanhaiya Kumar, the former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union (JNUSU), was attacked near Dahia village on Tuesday evening. According to a tweet by ANI, several vehicles were also vandalised at the same time. Reports inform that some people have been injured in the attack. More details awaited.
It must be noted that Kanhaiya is set to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Begusarai in Bihar. Reports inform that he will contest against the ruling JD(U)-BJP combine on a CPI ticket. He is likely to have the support of grand alliance partners RJD, Congress, NCP and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s HAM(S). "If the party (CPI) decides to nominate me as its candidate from Begusarai and other grand alliance partners also extend their support, then I don't have any objection to it," Kumar had told PTI in September.

A resident of Barauni block in Begusarai district, Kumar’s mother is an anganwadi worker while his father is a farmer. At present, the BJP represents Begusari in the Lok Sabha. Reports inform that in 2014, BJP's Bhola Singh won the seat by defeating RJD’s Tanveer Hasan by 58,000 votes.
