Kamlesh Tiwari Murder Case: UP DGP OP Singh Says Police Solved Case in 24 Hours, 5 Detained
UP DGP OP Singh addressed the media and said that the Uttar Pradesh solved the case in just 24 hours of the incident. During the press conference, Singh said the as per preliminary investigation, three people have been arrested in connection with Tiwari's murder.
Lucknow, October 19: Uttar Pradesh DGP OP Singh termed the murder of Hindu Samaj Party leader Kamlesh Tiwari as 'radical killing'. Singh said a total of five people have been detained in connection with the case, adding that the UP Police solved the case in just 24 hours of the brutal incident. During the press conference, Singh said the as per preliminary investigation, five people have been detained in connection with Tiwari's murder. The DGP added saying that in the initial probe, no criminal background of the three people, who have been detained, has been established yet. Giving details about the probe, Singh said in the FIR, two people, who were named as conspirators - Maulana Anwarul Haq and Mufti Naeem Qazmi hve been detained and are being questioned. Apart from these two, three others including Maulana Mohsin Sheikh, Faizan and Khurshid Ahmed Pathan have also been detained.
Singh said that a joint team of UP & Gujarat Police has detained three persons and is now interrogating them. "Their names are Maulana Mohsin Sheikh, Faizan and Khurshid Ahmed Pathan. The DGP said the Police will monitor Gujarat, Bijnor, Lucknow and other places which will come up during investigation. "We are working in collaboration with the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), till now no link with any terrorist organisation has been established. We will look into all the details and take action", Singh said.
Tiwari was shot dead in broad daylight in Lucknow on Friday following which he was rushed to the trauma centre where he succumbed to his injuries. A report by IANS said that the attackers who were wearing saffron clothes, walked into Tiwari's office in Khurshid Bagh area on the pretext of handing over a box of sweets. Soon after getting in, the assailants opened the box, took out the firearm and sprayed Tiwari with bullets and fled.
Singh said these people were radicalized by the speech that he (Kamlesh Tiwari) gave in 2015, but much more can come out when we catch hold of the remaining criminals. "All the security arrangements were made, he (Kamlesh Tiwari) was given a gunner and a policeman, both were there with him. There was no laxity on the part of the police administration", Singh said.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was constituted to investigate Tiwari's murder. On Friday, Singh had said that accused knew Tiwari as they spent around 30 minutes with him on the pretext of gifting him sweets and termed it as a "purely a criminal activity conducted by two people".
