Kalyan: Marriages And Funeral Processions Affected Due to PM Narendra Modi’s Visit to Lay Foundation of Metro Projects

Thane, December 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited Kalyan in Thane district of Maharashtra to lay the foundation stone for two metro projects, but these development schemes had adverse effects on the lives of to be married couples and people carrying the dear ones for the last rites.
According to the report, published in Marathi newspaper Saamana, the administration cancelled permissions for two marriage halls and funeral processions in the crematorium located near PM Modi’s function area – Phadke Ground at Lal Chowki in Kalyan – stating security reasons. A tight security cordon was put in place by the SPG and state armed forces for the Premier’s programme, which created a lot of difficulties for the citizens residing near the event ground. While the marriage halls were asked to cancel the functions, crematorium ground remained shut for the day. This not only created issues for the brides and grooms, but also created difficulties for the people who were supposed to take the funeral of their near one for the last rites to the crematorium.
The report says that till the time PM Modi’s event was over and he departed from the place; no one was allowed to conduct last rites at the Lal Chowki crematorium. The municipal commissioner had ordered that if any final journey arrives at the Lal Chowki crematorium, it will have to move towards Bail Bazar crematorium which is located a kilometre away. Due to this, people of Kalyan became furious.
