Thane, September 1: Cases of crime, including rape and murder, have been on the rise against women, including children, in the recent past. In the latest incident, a 2-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a man near Titwala. The 35-year-old accused was arrested on Friday, August 30, by the Kalyan Rural police. Police officials said the incident occurred on Friday afternoon when the girl was playing outside her house with her siblings and other children.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, the accused, who is a neighbour of the victim, lured the toddler with chocolates and sweets. Following this, he took the girl to an isolated spot and allegedly sexually assaulted her. It was only when the girl started crying that the accused left her and fled from the spot. The incident came to light when one of the passersby who heard the child crying took her home. When the family rushed the child to a doctor, they learned about the sexual assault. Cops said that the child had suffered serious injuries to her private parts in the alleged sexual assault. At present, the child is admitted to the Central Hospital in Ulhanagar.
After the incident came to light, a case was registered against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. During preliminary investigation, cops learned that the accused was working as a labourer and belonged to the same village as the victim. They also found that the accused was trusted by the family as he used to interact with the girl. After his arrest, the accused was produced before a POCSO court on Saturday, August 30, which remanded him to police custody.
