Kalyan: 104-Year-Old Patri Bridge Closed From Today, Railway to Demolish it on August 24
The demolition was necessitated as an audit conducted by the MSRTC had found the bridge to be in a dilapidated condition.
Mumbai, Aug 21: The 104-year-old Patri Pool Bridge in Kaylan will be demolished by the Central Railway. The decision to close down the bridge was finalised in the meeting held on Tuesday between the top officials of Railways, Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) and Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRTC).
For commuters in Kalyan-Dombivali region, Tuesday was the final day when their vehicles were allowed to ply on the historic flyover. From today, the bridge has been closed down for vehicles. The demolition will begin from Friday, August 24.
The Central Railway has been authorised to build a new bridge which would replace the Pitri Pool flyover.
The demolition was necessitated as an audit conducted by the MSRTC had found the bridge to be in a dilapidated condition. After the redflag issued in July, heavy vehicles, including trucks and buses, will not be allowed to ply.
The region of Kalyan-Dombivali, where the bridge is located, is likely to witness heavy congestion in the coming days due to the demolition and reconstruction of the bridge.
