Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde to Take Oath Today as 47th Chief Justice of India

CJI Ranjan Gogoi retired on November 17 and before his retirement, he delivered verdicts in several key matters, including the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute case, Rafale judgment, Sabarimala among others during his tenure as the CJI in the Supreme Court.

New Delhi, November 18: Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde to take oath as the 47th Chief Justice of India on Monday. Justice Bobde would be administered the oath of office of Chief Justice of India by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 9:30 am.

SA Bobde will serve as CJI for nearly 18 months and retire on April 23, 2021. Ranjan Gogoi had on October 18 recommended Justice SA Bobde, the second senior-most judge of the apex court, as his successor. Bobde joined Bombay High Court and become the Senior Advocate in 1998. In 2000, he was appointed as the additional judge of Bombay High Court. He became the Chief Justice (CJ) of Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2012 and was promoted as the judge of the Supreme Court in 2013.
