New Delhi, November 8: US President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris were congratulated on social media by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their "spectacular victory" in the US presidential elections 2020. Modi posted two tweets - each of them lauding the role played by Biden and Harris in shaping the Indo-US relations. Kamala Harris Dials Joe Biden, Says 'We Did It'; All About The First Woman and 'The First Woman of Colour' to Become US Vice President.

"Congratulations Joe Biden on your spectacular victory! As the VP, your contribution to strengthening Indo-US relations was critical and invaluable. I look forward to working closely together once again to take India-US relations to greater heights," Modi said.

In his tweet on Kamala Harris being designated to serve as the next Vice President, Modi also made a reference to chittis - or aunts as they are known in Tamil. The term had trended across the US when Kamala had paid tribute to her chitti on being chosen as the running mate of Biden in the US elections.

"Heartiest congratulations @KamalaHarris! Your success is pathbreaking, and a matter of immense pride not just for your chittis, but also for all Indian-Americans. I am confident that the vibrant India-US ties will get even stronger with your support and leadership (sic)," Modi tweeted.

The years of Trump presidency witnessed bonhomie between Modi and Trump. The two world leaders held joint rallies - the first in US during Modi's 'Howdy, Modi!' event in 2019, followed by the American President's visit to Ahmedabad in February this year for 'Namaste Trump'. In the event that was held in Texas, Modi had welcomed Trump in the audience of Indian-Americans with "Abki baar, Trump Sarkar" slogan.
