Mumbai, August 28: The Mumbai police recently arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly duping a police constable of Rs 5 lakh. Cops said that the accused cheated the constable by promising him to provide a job to his son in the Indian Railways. The accused has been identified as Prasad Kamble, a resident of Kolhapur. Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap and arrested Kamble from his hometown. After being arrested, the accused was remanded to police custody.
Speaking to the Hindustan Times, a police officer said, "The victim, Tanaji Mohite, 55, met the accused six years ago when he was posted at the DB Marg police station, Grant Road East. Kamble, who stayed in a room at Yadgar Guest House in Grant Road East, claimed he often visited Mantralaya and was acquainted with several senior officials there." Back then, Mohite told Kamble about his son, who had just finished his engineering. As Mohite's son was looking for a job, Kamble said that he knew officials in the Indian Railways and could arrange a job for his son. However, Kamble also told Mohite that he had to spend money for his son to get a job in the railways.
When the duo met for the second time, Kamble said he spoke to a railway ministry senior official and had to pay Rs 5 lakh for the job posting. Following this, Mohite paid Kamble Rs 3 lakh cheque and Rs 2 lakh in cash. However, Kamble started to avoid Mohite soon after he received the money. Later, Mohite learned that Kamble had duped several people using the same modus operandi. After his arrest, Kamble was booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. A police officer said that last year, they launched a to nab the accused.
