New Delhi, January 22: Jawaharlal Nehru University’s (JNU’s) NCC cadets will be participating in the 70th Republic Day celebrations. The announcement was made by university's Vice-Chancellor Dr Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar. In a statement, Kumar said that it would be happening for the first time, when the cadets of the university are participating in the parade. The NCC cadets will march with Indian triclour at university campus. JNU Violence: Delhi Police Identifies 37 Suspects for January 5 Incident From 60-Member WhatsApp Group 'Unity Against Left'.

The VC said, “JNU is gearing up to celebrate Republic Day. This year, for the first time, the NCC cadets of the University will be participating in a parade at the venue of the flag hoisting during the Republic Day celebrations at JNU.”

The university witnessed massive protests over the hostel fee hike in the last two months. Earlier this month, violence also took place on the university campus. On January 5, around 50 masked men attacked the JNU students on the campus. The Delhi police registered a case against nine people, including Ghosh in connection with the incident. Ghosh was named in the FIR for vandalising CCTV cameras on January 3. Meanwhile, the police also identified 37 people for January 5 violence in JNU. Some ABVP members were also named in the FIR including Komal Sharma.

However, Sharma, who is a student of Delhi University's Daulat Ram College, said a TV channel claimed that she was involved in the violence and used "all forums to defame her", subjecting her to "mental violence".
