J&K: BSF Vehicle Attacked by Terrorists at Pantha Chowk, Five Jawans Injured
Terrorists have been targeting security forces including Jammu and Kashmir police personnel in militancy-hit south Kashmir recently.
Srinagar, October 29: Unspecified number of terrorists on Monday attacked a vehicle carrying jawans of Border Security Force (BSF) at Pantha Chowk on the outskirts of Srinagar city in Jammu and Kashmir. Five jawans were injured in the attack, initial reports suggested. The area has been cordoned off following the attack, and a manhunt has been launched.
Meanwhile, three militants were arrested after a brief shootout with security forces on the outskirts of Srinagar city. The militants, who were in a car, were signalled to stop at a check post in Narbal area. "But the militants opened fire at the police. The fire was retaliated. One of the militants was injured. Arms and ammunition were recovered from the arrested militants, the spokesman added. Terrorists have been targeting security forces including Jammu and Kashmir police personnel in militancy-hit south Kashmir recently. On Sunday, Militants carried out two deadly attacks in Kashmir valley, killing a police officer and a political activist.
Jammu and Kashmir Police’s sub-inspector Imtiyaz Ahmed Mir was on his way to his home when he was shot dead by militants. 30-year-old Mir was so desperate to meet his parents that he even shaved off his beard in an unsuccessful attempt to hoodwink terrorists. Mir worked in the state intelligence department and was posted in Srinagar.
In another attack, militants targeted a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) activist, Muhammad Amin, in Gangbugh area on the outskirts of Srinagar district. He was fired at from close range, leading to critical injuries. He was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
