Ranchi, July 3: A primary school teacher in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharsawan district was abducted from campus in broad daylight and beheaded, police said on Tuesday. The accused, a mentally unstable youth, has been arrested.
The victim, identified as Sukru Hessa, was employed at the Khaparsai primary school in Seraikela. In the afternoon, when the students were playing in the fields, the accused entered into the classroom and dragged Hessa out of the campus. He took her to his house located near the forest and beheaded her using a long-knife, the police said citing their preliminary probe.
Chandu Hembrom, the school’s cook, said he attempted to chase the accused but could not match his pace. "He had a sharp weapon and was extremely aggressive," Hembrom told reporters.
After nearly three hours of hunt, the police nabbed the youth from the forest after he was spotted with a knife in one hand and the decapitated head of the deceased in another, said Seraikela sub divisional police officer (SDPO) Avinash Kumar.
Immediately after the murder was reported, all schools in Seraikela-Kharsawan district were closed and sit-in protest was organised by the faculty members. The teachers' association has also called a district bandh tomorrow to protest the the lack of security provided to the primary school employees.
