Jharkhand: Naxals Destroy School in Latehar Region

Ranchi, July 19: The Naxals in Jharkhand's Latehar region on Wednesday destroyed one of the government schools in the area. The Naxals alleged that the school was being used to house security personnel. Speaking to ANI, the students said now they have only three rooms left in the entire premises of the building. According to reports, the students studying in first, second and sixth standards are now confined to a single room due to lack of space.

In a breakthrough for security forces, eight Naxals were gunned down in an encounter in a forest area along the border of Bijapur and Dantewada districts in Chhattisgarh on July 19. The encounter broke out at 6 am when a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF) launched an operation launched a search operation.

A large scale of arms and ammunition including two INSAS Rifles, two .303 rifles, were recovered by the security forces. Sundarraj P, DIG(anti-Naxal ops) said, “We'll continue such operations to make this region Naxal-free.” Naxals opened fire at security forces in the forest near Timinar and Pusnar villages along the border of Bijapur and Dantewada districts. In retaliation, security personnel killed eight Naxals.
