Jharkhand Lynching Case: Five Arrested, Two Police Officers Suspended as Tabrez Ansari's Killing Sparks Outrage

Ranchi, June 24: At least five accused have been arrested and two police officers suspended as the lynching of 22-year-old Tabrez Ansari has sparked a country-wide outrage. The police administration has been ordered to crackdown on the accused, while taking stringent action against officials charged of negligence.
Ansari, hailing from Jamshedpur, died on Saturday after succumbing to the injuries. An autopsy report is, however, awaited to confirm the exact cause of his death. Preliminary probe has revealed that Ansari was taken along by two men to Karsova village in Saraikela-Kharsawan district in the wee hours of June 18.
The trio were apprehended by villagers who suspected them to be thieves. While the two others succeeded in fleeing the spot, Ansari was caught by them, tied up to a pole and beaten mercilessly for at least four hours. The accused also made him chant Jai Shri Ram and Jai Hanuman, while continuing the assault with rods and sticks.
The police arrived at the spot at around 9:30 am and took him into custody. A case of theft was registered against Ansari under various IPC sections, and his judicial custody secured from a magisterial court.
On June 22, Ansari complaint of health issues. He was rushed to the local government hospital, from where he was referred to the TATA Hospital in Jamshedpur. He was declared dead on arrival.
Ansari's case was raised in the Rajya Sabha by Congress MP Ghulam Nabi Azad's who questioned the silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"Jharkhand has become a factory of lynching and violence. Dalits and Muslims are killed there every week. PM, we are with you in the fight of 'sabka saath sabka vikas' but it should be there for people to see it. We can't see it anywhere," Azad said.
