Ranchi, January 23: Licenses of 16 child care institutions have been cancelled by the Jharkhand government for violating the JJ Act (Juvenile Justice- Care and Protection of Children Act, 2015). The move came Wednesday morning by the government of Jharkhand, according to media reports. Among the institutions whose licenses have been cancelled, include 'Nirmal Hriday' house, run by the missionaries of charity. According to reports, the licences have been cancelled following a report by State Commission with a recommendation to take action against 31 such shelter homes in Jharkhand.
In July last year, chief minister Raghubar Das, following the incident of baby selling at 'Nirmal Hriday' house had directed SCPCR to submit a status report after visiting 126 shelter homes.
The Ranchi district administration had also recommended the cancellation of registration of shelter home Nirmal Hriday being run by Missionaries of Charity after irregularities including trafficking of children at the shelter home were found during a probe.
Ranchi social welfare officer Kanchan Singh, had said that the administration has suggested cancellation of licences of six more shelter homes. Three shelter homes were granted time to improve facilities and the licence cancellation of one shelter home was on hold since it's role in Nirmal Hriday shelter home case was being probed.
