Mumbai, June 22: Anita Besra, age 9, of Phagu, Jharkhand, who is visually handicapped, had a remarkable escape on Tuesday night after falling from the hostel's third-floor patio. In the Kabardanga neighbourhood of Haridevpur, southwest of Kolkata, at about 9.45 pm, the event occurred in a privately managed residential school for the blind.

For the past three years, Besra, a LKG student, has resided here. She had gone to the terrace after supper together with 20 other gals. After a time, the others went back to their rooms, but Anita was mistakenly left behind. The girl stumbled from the terrace while attempting to find her way to the stairwell.

She was one of the 21 people who went to the terrace after supper, according to school principal Kaberi Das. The attendant informed everyone downstairs that she was shutting the terrace doors at around 9.30 p.m.

She yelled to see whether anyone was still on the terrace after everyone appeared to have departed. She shut the door after not getting an answer, assuming that everyone had already departed. The youngster who was left behind made an effort to descend. She seemed to have climbed up the terrace wall before falling into the parapet of the first story. We were made aware of her screams, and when we discovered her, she was seated. She received a CT scan at SSKM Hospital after we swiftly took her to a nearby nursing home. She was discharged by the physicians, who said she was doing well. For those of us here, this is nothing less than a miracle, Das told TOI.

According to police, the youngster comes from a low-income household and still lives with her mother and grandmother.

The girl is now doing nicely. Even during the summer break last year, she stayed with us here. She has only seen her family once this year, according to Das. The police say they will notify the family as soon as possible.
