Jharkhand: 13-Year-Old Girl Gang-Raped in Chaibasa; Five Juveniles Among Seven Accused

Ranchi, August 3: In another incident of sexual assault against a minor, a 13-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by seven people about nine kilometres from Chaibasa in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district on July 26. Five of the seven accused are juveniles. According to the report published in Hindustan Times, police on Friday lodged an FIR against the accused in the case. As per the police, one of the five juveniles involved in the incident was sent to remand home while the rape survivor was sent for medical tests.
The incident came to light on Thursday after the victim’s family approached the police. Digvijay Singh, officer-in-charge, Chaibasa Muffasil police station, told Hindustan Times, “We have lodged FIR under the relevant sections against two adults and five juveniles after a preliminary investigation confirmed the heinous crime.” The police apprehended an accused juvenile on Thursday and based on his statement identified the rest.
The police have launched a manhunt operation to arrest the remaining six accused. According to the report, the girl had gone to graze cattle on July 26, when youths from neighbouring village allegedly gang-raped her. After committing the crime, the accused even threatened the girl to not to tell anybody.
In June five women were gang-raped in Kunti district of Jharkhand. The women had gone to Kochang village in Khunti district to raise awareness on migration and human trafficking on June 19, when they were allegedly abducted from R C Mission School and later, gang-raped at gunpoint.
