New Delhi, December 2: In a bid to revive itself, cash-strapped Jet Airways has decided to suspend flights to seven Gulf countries from some domestic cities. The airline, however, will not suspend its Gulf operations completely. As part of a new strategy to raise capital, Jet Airways will offer more international flights from Delhi and Mumbai. The major changes will come into effect from December 5.

Jet Airways will terminate flights to Doha, Muscat, Abu Dhabi and Dubai from cities such as Kochi, Lucknow and Mangalore. It will also cut flight from Kozhikode to Thiruvananthapuram. During the winter season, the airline will enhance frequencies on Delhi to Bangkok, Doha, Singapore, Kathmandu and Mumbai to Doha, Singapore and Dubai routes, said a spokesperson. Flight Ticket Rates May go Down as Jet Fuel Prices Slashed by 11 Per Cent For December.

"As part of this strategy, Gulf operations are being optimised to focus on connectivity at our hubs in Mumbai and Delhi instead of point-to-point connectivity. Concentrating capacity over Jet Airways' hubs will enhance

frequencies to offer greater choice to guests, while improving our asset utilisation and resource productivity," he was quoted as saying.

"We also acknowledge the interim inconvenience the above changes may cause to the travel itineraries of our guests. We would like to reassure them that we will take all measures, including proactive communication and re-accommodations, to minimise such inconvenience," the spokesperson added.

Jet Airways is facing financial troubles due to an increase in Brent fuel, along with a weak rupee and a mismatch between high fuel prices and low fares. Launched in 1993, the Mumbai-based Jet Airways currently operates on 66 domestic and international destinations with a fleet of 124 aircraft.

On November 16, Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group firms, said discussions on acquiring a stake in the financially troubled airline are at a preliminary stage and that no such proposal has been made so far.
