Mumbai, Sep 21: The Mumbai Police on Friday booked Jet Airways for dereliction of duty after a Mumbai-Jaipur flight No. 9W 0697 was turned back on Thursday after air pressure in cabin fell due to an error by a cockpit crew. The airline has been booked for attempt to murder of travellers on board.  According to a report by ANI, nearly 30 out of 166 passengers suffered nose and ear bleeding due to loss of cabin pressure. It must be noted that there were 166 passengers and 5 crew members on board flight 9W 697.

Soon after the incident, Jet Airways spokesperson confirmed the incident and said that the Boeing 737 aircraft returned to Mumbai due to "loss of cabin pressure" and the pilots have been taken off duty. The spokesperson expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers and said alternative arrangements are being made for the passengers.

On Thursday, passengers on a Jet Airways flight from Mumbai to Jaipur suffered nose and ear bleeding after the crew apparently "forgot" to turn on a switch that controls cabin air pressure. It must be noted that under the law, airlines are liable to pay compensation in case a passenger gets injured while travelling with them.

An official at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday confirmed the incident and said that during the climb, the crew forgot to select bleed switch due to which cabin pressurisation could not be maintained. As a result, oxygen masks got deployed. "Out of 166 passengers on board, 30 passengers are affected... some have nose bleeding, few have ear bleeding and some are complaining of a headache," he added.

In the wake of the horror, the Civil Aviation Ministry said it has requested the DGCA to immediately file the report on the issue. A video footage taken by a passenger, showed oxygen masks hanging from overhead compartments and passengers breathing through them.
