Chennai, October 6: In the latest twist into the death of Tamil Nadu’s former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Apollo Hospitals on Friday told the Commission of Inquiry looking into the case that Inspector General of Police (Intelligence) K.N. Sathiyamurthy was among the four police officers who requested CCTV cameras be switched off during the hospitalisation of the former CM. According to a report published in The Hindu, the hospital submitted a five-page affidavit through its Manager-Legal S.M. Mohan Kumar.
In the affidavit submitted to Justice (Retd.) A. Arumughaswamy, the hospital informed that apart from Sathiyamurthy, R. Veeraperumal, S. Perumalsamy and Sudhaker were the members of Jayalalithaa’s personal security detail and all of them requested to switch off the cameras. According to the report, the cameras were switched off when the then CM was wheeled through the corridors of the hospital. Apollo Hospitals’ legal counsel Maimoona Badsha said that the cameras were again switched on when she was back in her room. Jayalalithaa Death Probe: Apollo Hospitals Asked to Submit CCTV Footages
The affidavit also provided details of Jayalalithaa’s personal security. As per the affidavit, the process began a day before Jayalalithaa had to be moved and the names of who would accompany her were cleared, and the route through she would be taken was prepared. The hospital was asked to place screens on either side of the corridor, and people were not allowed to take the elevators which were to be used for carrying the former chief minister, reported The Hindu. Rest all other elevators were shut down. Sathiyamurthy was in charge of the Core Cell CID was given the responsibility of protecting Jayalalitha. Earlier In June, he denied any involvement in switching off the cameras.
