Dispur, July 29: In a deadly outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis in the northeastern state of Assam, the death took rose to 120. The state health department said that the Japanese Encephalitis cases have considerably gone down as its peak period is over. According to reports, around 544 JE positive cases have been reported across districts. Assam health department's surveillance officer BC Bhagabati said that the fresh JE cases are likely to come down as the peak period is over.
Speaking to The Times of India, Bhagabati said that on an average, 25 to 35 new cases were reported in a day during the peak period in mid-July. In recent, the number is reduced to 8 to 10.
Japanese encephalitis is a virus caused by the bite of infected mosquitoes. Mostly, the infection results in little or no symptoms. In some cases, its symptoms include fever, Headache, vomiting, confusion and seizures.
