Srinagar, November 6: Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing a pre-season snowfall this year. On Wednesday, it received fresh snowfall due to which mercury dropped suddenly. The Mughal Road connecting Poonch and Rajouri was closed for vehicular traffic today after a snowfall in the high altitudes of Pir Panchal ranges. Gulmarg in Baramulla district also received snowfall. In the video shared by new agency ANI, it can be seen the entire region has been covered under the blanket of snow. The snowfall in the higher peaks of Pir Panchal mountain ranges started from late Monday evening. Yesterday, the weather department predicted moderate to heavy snowfall and rains in the hills and plains of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh union territories for three days starting from today. “We have already issued a weather advisory as the weather system is likely to cause temporary disruptions on surface transport, especially on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, in the coming days,” reported The Tribune quoting Director, State MeT Department, Sonam Lotus as saying.
However, traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway till Wednesday was smooth despite rains. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), due to interaction of western disturbance with Cyclone MAHA is most likely to cause widespread moderate to heavy snowfall and rain in the plains of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh from November 6 to 8.
