Jammu-Srinagar National Highway Closed for Second Day Due to Heavy Snowfall; Hundreds of Vehicles Stranded
The national highway (NH) in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur continues to remain closed for the second consecutive day leading to hundreds of vehicles left stranded on the Jammu-Srinagar NH.
Shimla, December 13: The national highway (NH) in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur continues to remain closed for the second consecutive day, hundreds of vehicles were left stranded on Jammu-Srinagar NH after authorities suspended traffic on the 270-km national highway stretch, the only road linking Kashmir with rest of the country, following rain and heavy snowfall. SSP Udhampur while speaking to ANI said "It's been raining heavily since morning and higher reaches received snowfall. Helpline number issued for stranded vehicles. District administration has provided halls for stranded passengers." Jammu & Kashmir: Season's First Snowfall in Pahalgam, See Pics.
Senior Superintendent of Police (traffic) Shakti Pathak told PTI that, "All the stranded vehicles have been moved to safer places along the highway and would be allowed to move towards their destination tomorrow if weather permits."
Most of the areas in Kashmir including the famous tourist destinations Sonamarg, Gulmarg, and Bhaderwah, while, Latti-Dudu and Mata Vaishnodevi hills in Jammu experienced heavy rainfall, registering a sharp fall in the temperature. Meanwhile, Jammu city registered a fall of 10 degree Celsius in just past 24 hours.
