Jammu-Srinagar Highway Restrictions to be Lifted by Governor Satya Pal Malik for Civilian Movement From May 27

Srinagar, May 21: Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik today decided to lift the remaining restrictions on civilian movement on the National Highway (NH-44) connecting Jammu to Srinagar with effect from May 27. The decision was taken after reviewing the security situation in the state. Earlier this month, the restrictions on the civilian movement were lifted partially on the Udhampur-Srinagar National Highway from May 13. In order to ensure safe movement of these convoys, the government had prohibited civilian traffic on NH-44, between Baramulla and Udhampur, every Sunday and Wednesday, from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. The restrictions were imposed after the February 14 Pulwama attack in which 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were martyred. Jammu and Kashmir: No More Wednesday Traffic Curbs on Udhampur-Srinagar National Highway After May 13.

However, "elaborate arrangements" were made by the local administration to facilitate the movement of the public during the period, the statement said. Noting the restriction on civilian movement between Srinagar and Baramulla on NH-44 was reduced only to Sunday after April 22 and completely lifted on May 2.
