Srinagar, July 5: A constable of Jammu & Kashmir police, identified as Javaid Ahmad Dar, went missing late evening on Thursday after he left home in South Kashmir's Shopian district to visit the local chemist. According to reports, Dar has been kidnapped by suspected terrorists.

The incident comes days after an Indian Army jawan, identified as Aurangzeb, was abducted by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in Pulwama when he was heading back home in Poonch for Eid celebrations. His bullet-ridden body was recovered the next day.

The Shopian police has launched a search operation to locate Dar.

On the eve of Eid-al-Fitr celebrated a fortnight ago, LeT terrorists shot dead Shujaat Bukhari, renowned Kashmiri journalist and editor of English daily Rising Kashmir. Two police constables deployed for guarding him sustained critical injuries.

Shortly after Bukhari's murder, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) retracted support extended to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. With BJP pulling out of the coalition with PDP, the government in Jammu & Kashmir was brought down due to the lack of majority.

"The BJP is taking a tough decision in the interest of Jammu, Kashmir and the nation. Under Mehbooba Mufti's reign, radicalism and terrorism is growing in Kashmir. The moderate voices are being silenced, as evident with the murder of Shujaat Bukhari," said BJP national secretary Ram Madhav, who was the architect of the PDP-BJP alliance first forged in 2015.
