Also, an Army commando of the elite Special Forces was killed on Wednesday during a gunfight. Reports inform that the slain militant has been identified as a Pakistan national.

According to reports, this year nearly 40 militants have been killed in gunfights close to the LoC in Kashmir. Major gunfights have taken place in the frontier Kupwara district as it is a key infiltration route for militants to sneak into the Valley.

Life in Kupwara was hit due to a strike for two days where people were protesting against the death of a youth in the Army firing on July 11 evening. Reports informed that colleges and several higher secondary schools remained closed as a precautionary measure to prevent any demonstration by students.
