Kulgam, January 13: In a joint operation by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF, two terrorists – identified Zeenat-ul-Islam and Shakeel Ahmed Dar – were killed in an encounter in Katpora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday night. After the encounter and the search, the security forces recovered warlike stores, officials said.
The security forces stated that they received specific information about the presence of militants there and launched a cordon and search operation on Saturday. Soon after the search started, the militants fired upon them, and the security forces took charge to neutralise them. In a gunfight that went for hours, the security forces killed the two terrorists and recovered arms and ammunition from the encounter site. Among the two terrorists killed in the encounter include Zeenat-ul-Islam – associated with terror group Al-Badr – is considered a dreaded militant, whose previous association was with another militant group Hizbul Mujahideen. Islam had been placed as A+++ category militant in the security forces list and managed to escape several cordons and search operations in the last year.
