The fire incident in J&K comes days after a blaze was reported at the Army camp in Kupwara district. Several units at the 45 Rashtriya Rifles headquarters in Hamar Gali area in Machil Sector were up in flames, causing panic in the region.
No casualties were reported in the Kupwara fire. A probe conducted by the fire safety department ruled out sabotage angle. It blamed short circuit as the reason for the blaze.
In J&K, unlike other states, fire due to manmade causes are outnumbered by the fires caused due to natural causes. In 2016, the state had recorded 781 cases of forest fires.
