Jammu & Kashmir: Engineer-Turned-Militant Khurshid Ahmad Malik, Shot in Encounter Four Days Ago, Shortlisted For Police Recruitment

Srinagar, Aug 8: An engineering graduate-turned-militant, who was killed in an encounter with the security forces four days ago, has been shortlisted by the Jammu & Kashmir Police for recruitment.
The J&K Police on Wednesday released the names of 2,060 shortlisted candidates. At serial number 1913 is the name of Khurshid Ahmad Malik, a resident of Arabal village in South Kashmir's Pulwama.
Malik had earlier completed his graduation in BTech from Sri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) in Katra district of Jammu region and had also cleared GATE.
His villagers claim he was preparing for the Kashmir Administrative Services examination. On August 1, he had left home claiming that he was going to Srinagar to apply for the Combined Competitive Examinations.
However, he had been radicalised and recruited into the militancy. Within 48 hours, he was holed up by the security forces in Drusoo area of Sopore in North Kashmir's Baramulla district.
During the course of the encounter, his family reached out to Malik via phone and appealed him to surrender before the forces. However, the deceased did not pay heed to the pleas.
He, along with Lashkar-e-Taiba operative Riyaz Ahmed Dar, a resident of Naseerabad Chinkara in Sopore, was killed in the security operation. The encounter also claimed the life of an Army jawan, identified as Sawar Vijay Kumar.
