Srinagar, October 21: A low-intensity earthquake was reported in Jammu & Kashmir on Sunday. The magnitude of the tremors was measured as 3.3 on the richter scale. The epicentre of the earthquake was yet to be confirmed by the geological agencies.
According to local media reports, the tremors were felt upto five seconds in some parts of Srinagar and adjoining regions. Locals in sections of the state capital had stepped out of their houses in wake of the shocks. However, no incident of panic was reported as the tremors were of light intensity. Another Earthquake Had Hit J&K on Oct 7.
No casualties or damage to properties were reported by the time report was published. The timing of the earthquake is stated to be 6:06 pm by news agency ANI.

The state of Jammu & Kashmir falls under the seismic belt of Himalayan region which is prone to moderate-intensity earthquakes. Two days ago, 5.2 intensity jolts has struck J&K, with the epicentre being found in Tajikistan-Xinjiang region.
The worst earthquake to hit Kashmir was in October 2005, when recurring tremors of 76. magnitude ended up claiming the lives of 80,000 people in the hilly state, apart from displacing lakhs of them.
