New Delhi, July 24: A total of 126 terrorists were killed in Jammu and Kashmir until July 14 this year, while 75 security forces personnel were also martyred in gunfights with terrorists during the same period, claimed Minister of State (MoS) for home G Kishan Reddy in the Rajya Sabha. In reply to a written question in the Upper House, the MoS said that the security situation in the state had also improved in the first half of this year as compared to the same period in 2018.
According to the government, net infiltration has reduced by 43 percent. In addition to this, there is also a decline in the recruitment of local youth into terror groups by 40 percent. Reddy also claimed that terror incidents fell by 28 percent. According to the minister, actions initiated by the security forces witnessed an increase of 59 percent due to this 22 percent of more terrorists were neutralised. In reply to another question, the minister said that 745 terrorists had been neutralised in J&K since 2016 and till June this year. Meanwhile, terrorist attacks and actions initiated by security forces against terrorists in the state rose to 614 in 2018 from 342 in 2017 and 322 in 2016. The number of civilian casualties in 2018 was 39 as compared to 40 in 2017 and 15 in 2016. The number of security forces martyred in terror-related incidents in 2018 also rose to 91 in 2018, while in 2017, 80 security personnel were martyred.
The minister also informed the house that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced a package of Rs 80,068 crore for the development in Jammu and Kashmir to bring Kashmiri youth in the mainstream.
