Jammu & Kashmir: Schools, Colleges to Remain Shut Today; Curfew Relaxed For Few Hours
All educational institutes will remain shut and the exams scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed. The new dates will be announced soon, the authorities said. Mobile Internet services also remained suspended for the sixth consecutive day.
Jammu, February 20: The ongoing curfew in Jammu and Kashmir was temporarily relaxed for three hours by authorities on Wednesday. Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar said that the relaxation has been given in curfew in Jammu city between 8 am to 11 am. However, Kumar informed that educational institutes will remain shut and the exams scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed. The new dates will be announced soon, the authorities said. Mobile Internet services also remained suspended for the sixth consecutive day. Curfew Continues in Jammu and Kashmir for 5th Day on Tuesday.
Spokesperson of the Jammu University, Vinay Thusoo said, “All the examinations of the University of Jammu scheduled to be held on February 19, 20 and 21 stand postponed due to unavoidable circumstances". He said fresh dates for conducting the postponed exams would be notified later. The relaxation has been given in view of the improvement in the situation which remains well under control. Curfew was imposed in the state on Friday following widespread anti-Pakistan protests and sporadic incidents of violence over the Pulwama terror attack. As curfew was relaxed in a phased manner, people in the region thronged to markets to buy essential commodities. The Inspector General of Police, Jammu said that the curfew, which was imposed on February 15, has been relaxed in all parts of the district from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. He stated that order is only for Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the curfew was relaxed in few parts of the Jammu city in three phases. Curfew in several regions falling under the jurisdiction of Nawabad police station, Jammu city and Peer Mitha was relaxed from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm, followed by relaxation in the areas of bus stand police station, Pacca Danga, Bakshi Nagar and Janipur from 3 pm to 5 pm. Later, the curfew was relaxed in the entire south Jammu from 3.30 pm to 7 pm.
