Srinagar, June 24: Hundreds and thousands of devotees will undertake the Amarnath Yatra, usually held between June and August, in less than a week. The Amarnath Yatra, organised by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), will be held from June 29 to August 19 this year. While registration for the yatra began on April 15, and devotees are all set to participate in the spiritual journey, many are looking online to find out the weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir, where the Amarnath Yatra is held annually.

June to August, when the Amarnath Yatra will be undertaken, usually experiences rains accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Amarnath Yatra Weather Forecast from June 29 to July 6:

The Amarnath Yatra, which is set to begin in less than a week, comprises two main routes or tracks. The first one is the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Anantnag, while the second route is the 14-km short but steep Baltal route in Ganderbal. Notably, the Amarnath trek will begin simultaneously from both routes. While the 52-day pilgrimage can partially be covered by motorcycle and partially by foot, it's important to be prepared for the weather in Jammu and Kashmir beforehand.

According to The Weather Channel's forecast, the first day of the Amarnath Yatra, Saturday, June 29, will experience thunderstorms with 40 to 50 per cent rain throughout the day and at night. Similarly, the weather in Jammu and Kashmir will likely witness thunderstorms and rainfall on Sunday, June 30. However, thunderstorms and scattered thunderstorms with 50 to 60 per cent rainfall have been forecasted from July 1 to 3. On June 22, Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, took part in the "Pratham Puja", thereby marking the ceremonial commencement of the Amarnath Yatra. While individuals between the ages of 13 and 70 can register for the Amarnath Yatra with a mandatory health certificate, pregnant women are not allowed to undertake the pilgrimage.

It must be noted that the Amarnath Yatra holds immense significance among Hindu devotees who take part in the annual pilgrimage to offer prayers at Baba Barfani. Last year, over 4.5 lakh pilgrims performed the annual pilgrimage and offered their prayers at the naturally formed ice-shivlingam inside the Amarnath cave shrine.
