Srinagar, December 13: Security forces on Thursday gunned down two terrorists in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district. While the encounter ended after the killings of terrorists, a search operation was underway to sanitise the area. The identity and group affiliation of the terrorists is yet to be ascertained.
The troops of 179 Battalion of CRPF, Special Operation Group (SOG), 22 RR, CRPF Range Quick Action Team, Baramulla, carried out the encounter. The gun-battle began between the holed up militants and security forces at Baratkalan-Gund Mohalla of Sopore town on Wednesday. "As the security forces tightened the cordon, the hiding militants opened fire, triggering an encounter which is underway," Jammu and Kashmir police told IANS. High-beam lights were installed around the gunfight site to ensure the militants are prevented from escaping. As the encounter broke out, the authorities suspended mobile internet services in Sopore town as a precautionary measure.
