Jammu And Kashmir: Two Lashkar-e-Taiba Terrorists Gunned Down in Sopore Encounter

While identities of slain terrorists are yet to be ascertained, police confirmed both of them belong to the LeT outfit.

Baramulla, May 30: Two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were gunned down by security forces in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The gunfight between terrorists and security forces broke out in Dangarpora village in Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district. While identities of slain terrorists are yet to be ascertained, police confirmed both of them belong to the LeT outfit.

Troops from the Rashtriya Rifles, the Special Operations Group of the police and the Central Reserve Police Force launched a cordon and search operation after getting information about the presence of militants in the village. As the cordon tightened the terrorists fired at the security personnel triggering the gunfight.

"On a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by police and security forces in Dangerpora area of Sopore. During the search operation, the hiding terrorists fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter,” police said in a statement. Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter.

Authorities have suspended mobile Internet services in Sopore and also closed educational institutions as a precaution.
