Srinagar, December 21: Two jawans lost their lives on Friday in an unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops on the line of control (LoC) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan army resorted to ceasefire violation in Keran sector of Kupwara. Defence sources said that the Indian Army retaliated strongly.

Two junior commissioned officers (JCOs) lost their lives when Pakistan violated the ceasefire in Keran sector. The deceased soldiers were identified as Subedar Gamar Thapa and Subedar Raman Thapa. The incident took place at around 12 noon and the Indian Army retaliated strongly, Army officials told news agency PTI. Jaish-e-Mohammed Terrorists Active in Kashmir, Security Officials Warn of Sniper Attacks.

"Two junior commissioned officers (JCOs) were injured in sniper fire from Pakistan side. The injured officers were shifted to army's Drugmulla hospital where one JCO, Subedar Gamar Thapa, succumbed to injuries," Defence sources told IANS.

"The other injured JCO, Subedar Raman Thapa, was later shifted to army's base hospital in Srinagar for specialised treatment," sources said, adding that the Indian forces retaliated strongly. He later succumbed to his wounds.
